Royal Palms Marks It’s 25th Anniversary

Senior Living Community Celebrates 25 Years of Service to Largo/Pinellas County

LARGO, Fla. (May 28, 2015)Royal Palms, an active, independent retirement living community, developed and managed by The Goodman Group, is celebrating its milestone 25th anniversary this summer. Royal Palms opened in June 1990 and was one of the first two communities of six operating in The Palms of Largo, a 96-acre, master-planned intergenerational campus. It was part of Chairman John Goodman’s vision to develop a campus where residents would have the flexibility to age in place and transfer to the other communities on-site as higher levels of healthcare services are needed. All the communities, including Royal Palms, offer intergenerational programming with the on-site Learning Center, which links generations, both young in age and young at heart.

“Royal Palms’ Grand Open House in 1990 was hosted by our Chairman John Goodman,” said Craig Edinger, vice president of Senior Living & Healthcare, The Goodman Group. “Robin Katchuk, executive director of Royal Palms since 1997, has been an exceptional Executive Director for Royal Palms. She leads a team of dedicated and talented staff and has helped make it a crown jewel of our Palms of Largo campus. We have long-term staff and long-term residents that make the community a wonderful place to live.”

Katchuk added that Royal Palms’ residents are highly engaged and active. Over the past two and a half decades, Royal Palms is proud to continue to help The Goodman Group pilot many of the managed communities’ innovative national programs developed to meet the care of today’s residents and future generations, including Food for LifeTM, FIT Functional FitnessTM, Valiant Veterans®, and My Home ConnectionsTM. The Goodman Group’s Platinum Service® program sets Royal Palms a part from any other independent senior living community in Largo. It is the centerpiece of Royal Palm’s promise to each of its residents, families and all those it serves to deliver the highest quality of service on a legendary scale.

Six years ago, Royal Palms added a 150 seat Theater where residents put on shows four times a year that they write and produce. Royal Palms has a director of performing arts and a resident performance group called “The Royal Palms Players.” Royal Palms and Imperial Palms’ residents are working on an intergenerational play with children from The Learning Center and the community to be hosted at the Largo Community Center in August. Other additions include an Entertainment Center added two and a half years ago, and the opening of The Plaza, a central gathering place on the campus for fun events and activities Monday through Saturday.

Katchuk noted that among the biggest changes in senior living and healthcare is technology, as the campus and community websites are now a major source for information and inquiries. Residents have computers, smart phones, iPads and tablets to stay connected daily with their families and friends. Royal Palms has added Wi-Fi in the building, and social media classes are provided for residents and people living in the area, with topic areas including: Facebook, Twitter, iPhone, iPads, Pinterest, and digital cameras.

Royal Palms has received a Commitment to Excellence Award from The Goodman Group, a Shining Star Tonne Award from The Suncoast Performing Arts Foundation, and was named Business of the Year for The Palms by the Clearwater Chamber, and has received numerous awards for community participation.

Representatives from The Goodman Group’s other managed communities at Palms of Largo, including Cypress Palms, Regal Palms and Sabal Palms will also be participating and celebrating its sister-communities milestone. Joan Byrne, Director of Largo Recreation and Parks, among other special guests, will be attending the resident dinner party.
